Overview of Rosemarie Sokol

My main research interest is the role of whining speech in attachment relations. In the broader realm, I am interested in the evolution of attachment vocalizations, particularly whines, cries, and motherese. These three vocalizations share similar acoustic structures, and are all well-suited for getting the attention of listeners. The similarities of attachment vocalizations implies a similar origin. Finally, I am interested in the relationship between language and non-verbal (prosodic) vocalizations.

Among my teaching interests are Evolutionary-Developmental Psychology, Psychology of Film, Evolutionary Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and Research Methods.
My personal interests include spending time with friends and family, hiking with my dog, and Aikido. Check out the picture pages for some shots!
